"My printer won't print" covers a lot of different problems, and the fix depends entirely on which one you actually have. Here's how we narrow it down.
The job sits in the queue and never comes out
This is almost always a driver or spooler issue rather than a problem with the printer itself. The computer thinks it sent the job; the printer never received it properly.
The printer prints, but only sometimes
Usually a connection issue — a Wi‑Fi printer losing its link to the network, or a USB cable that's slightly loose. Wireless printers in particular are sensitive to being moved, even a few feet.
It won't install on a new computer at all
Normally a driver mismatch: the wrong driver, an outdated one, or one built for a different operating system version. This is especially common after a Windows or macOS update.
Everything looks fine, but nothing comes out physically
At this point it's worth checking supplies and hardware — ink or toner levels, paper jams, or a print head that needs cleaning — rather than software.
Why "just restart it" doesn't always work: a restart fixes plenty of temporary glitches, but if the underlying cause is a driver conflict or a failing connection, the same problem will be back within a day or two.
